Bernard joined JBA in 1999 and was appointed to Partner in 2007. He is an Honours graduate in Planning from the University of Auckland and holds a Masters Degree in Urban Design from the University of Sydney (Dean's Honours List). Bernard is a Certified Practising Planner, a Corporate Member of the Planning Institute of Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute. He currently sits on the NSW UDIA Urban Revitalisation Committee and is also a former President of the NSW Young Planners Association.
Within the private sector, Bernard has been responsible for the
coordination and preparation of a wide range of master plans, urban
design studies, Development Control Plans, Development Applications
and rezonings in both greenfield and urban environments and for
both public and private sector clients.
Bernard gains immense personal and professional satisfaction from
promoting quality urban design outcomes within the strategic and
statutory planning process. He prides himself on providing clients
with practical and creative solutions to often complex planning
issues.
Major projects that Bernard has lead include the 250,000m² World Square site in the Sydney CBD, the 500,000m² + Macquarie University Campus at North Ryde and the multi-million dollar, 270,000m² Cooks Cove business park project at Arncliffe.
Successfully blending statutory planning and urban design skills, a particular area of Bernard’s expertise includes the preparation of Development Control Plans. Projects include the Oran Park and Turner Road Precincts in the South-West Growth Centre and Marsden Park Industrial, Colebee and Area 20 Precincts in the North-West Growth Centre.
